Having founded the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen in 1868, Ariosto achieved his vision by bringing together progressive American production techniques and the skilled craftsmanship of Swiss watchmakers. When Ernst Jakob Homberger later took over, two iconic IWC collections were established: Pilot’s Watches and the Portugieser.
During the 1970s and 1980s, with Quartz taking over watch production, the company began utilising different materials in their IWC watches. This resulted in the creation of world-class men’s and ladies’ timepieces that are of the highest standard, both aesthetically and functionally.

CARING FOR YOUR IWC SCHAFFHUASEN WATCH
Your IWC watch takes little looking after, but there are some important tips when it comes to caring for your new timepiece.
- WINDING YOUR IWC WATCH
When winding up your watch, remember to take it off. For a traditional IWC classic model, simply turn 20-30 times in a clockwise direction.
For a sports watch, turn anti-clockwise for a few rotations first to unscrew the crown, before completing the step above.
- Setting the Date
Setting the date on your chronograph is fairly straightforward. Rotate the crown three times in an anti-clockwise rotation, this enables you to scroll through the days. But don’t try and change it between 9pm and 3am as this will interfere with the mechanisms.
- Cleaning your watch
To clean your new IWC wristwatch, simply use a microfibre cloth and a little water, if you wish, carefully avoiding the strap. Do not use soap as this could interfere with the mechanisms inside if any debris is collected underneath.
